8 Top Tips for Moving

Here at Edinburgh Removals we are keen to make sure your move is as hassle free as possible. Here are some great tips to make sure your move is problem free.

1) Prepare well in advance
It pays to write full and concise lists of everything you have to do in advance and during the course of the moving day. Continually jotting down your own tasks can save a lot of stress. Put your ducks in a row.

2) Choose the day of the move carefully
Many people favour a Friday but the roads are inevitably more congested. Sometimes choosing a midweek move and taking a day off work can be an easier solution.

3) Make sure you have enough packing material and boxes
Better too much than too little and packing early enough can help you be a little more discriminating about what you take and what you no longer need. If required we can provide a packing service that can speed the process up and help provide clarity. Think clearly about the proposed destination for items of furniture and possessions. Packing with that in mind can save months confusion as you try to settle into your new life. Label boxes and furniture clearly.

4) Small children
might find the process of moving exciting but they’re not necessarily safe when washing machines, wardrobes and beds are being manoeuvred in doors and up staircase. A delegated guardian can speed the process up for all parties.

5) Pets can find the disruption of their territories extremely traumatic
Familiar neighbours or relatives are good alternatives for preventing traumatised animals. Better that they are spared the noise and disruption at both ends if at all possible.

6) Make sure essential items are kept in safe and easily accessible packages
Money, personal documents anything which might be required during the move or soon after should be kept close to hand.

7) Notify gas, electricity and water that you’re moving to a new address
Arrange for mail to be forwarded on to your new address. It’s a good plan to look through your filing to identify who you need to tell – Banks, employers, schools – there are more than you first think.

8) Check your house twice before you leave
On leaving a property for the last time it pays to check thoroughly because you never know what personal treasures you might have forgotten. Make sure you turn off the gas and electricity and secure the property on leaving.
